George Oscar Cobb

George Oscar Cobb III, of Farmington, passed away surrounded by family and friends on June 30, 2013 in his residence. He was born August 3, 1937, in Chicago, IL, son of the late George Oscar Cobb, II. In addition to his father, George was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Donna Lee Cobb, in August of 2012. George grew up in Chicago, Illinois and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. After being honorably discharged from the military, George and his new wife, Donna, and their two sons Jim and Jeff moved to Farmington where they made their home. He was proud to have had a long career in law enforcement in the area and retired from the St. Francois County Sheriff's Department in 2007. George will be remembered for originating the area's "Shop With a Cop" program for underprivileged children. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion in Farmington. In his spare time he was an avid reader. Survivors include two sons, Jim Cobb and wife, Sharon, of Carbon Hill, AL and Jeff Cobb and wife, Lynda, of Farmington; two grandchildren, Michael and Hayley; a special "daughter", Tammy Zolman and husband, Kevin; three brothers, Thomas Cobb, Russell Milton and Bud Milton; and a sister, Linny Milton. Also surviving is George's beloved canine companion, Mac. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Cozean Memorial Chapel.
