George J. Wieland

FARMINGTON - George J. Wieland of Farmington, passed away suddenly on January 10, 2021 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 91. He was born on December 18, 1929 in East St. Louis, Illinois to the late George Milton and Julia (Mullane) Wieland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael (the late Rita) Wieland, his brother, Charles Wieland MD and his special canine companion, Teddy. George is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Louise (Warhover) Wieland, his children, Patrick (Debbie) Wieland, Mark (Lynn) Wieland, Matthew (Julia Huffman) Wieland, Christine (Douglas) Booth and John Wieland, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren and a host of friends. George proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran during the Korean era. He was an aeronautical engineer and during his career worked for Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grumman, McDonnell Douglas and Boeing. He was a member of the American Legion Post 416 of Farmington and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid reader. George was known as "Jimmy George" to his friends at the Huckstep Center at BJC Hospital and he will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2021 from 9:30am until time of Mass at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 10 North Long Avenue Street, Farmington officiated by Father William Thess. Interment to follow at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Masks are required if attending the visitation and/or service and please adhere to social distancing guidelines.
