Garland D. Combs

DeSoto Garland D. Combs, of Desoto, passed away May 15, 2017 at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis at the age of 82. He was born in Oak Grove, Missouri on October 4, 1934 to the late Wellie Cleave Combs and Larona A. (Farrow) Combs. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jennifer Lebcowitz; and four brothers, James Lee Combs, Herbert Combs, Bob Combs and David Combs.

Garland will be remembered for his smiling and happy attitude and his generous way of helping others. He was an intelligent and talented person who made his living in the automotive industry. He worked for twenty plus years for Carter Carburetor before his retirement. Computers intrigued him and he had become very skilled with them. His hobbies were genealogy and operating ham radios.

He will be missed by all of his family including his loving wife of 65 years, Ruth E. (Hutchinson) Combs; four daughters, Linda (Jack) Stines, Bonnie (Richard) Scheffler, Diane (John) Williams and Janet Combs; seven grandchildren, Anthony, Jason, Ian, David, Gary, Tabitha and Todd; numerous great grandchildren; three brothers, John Wayne Combs, Donald Ray Combs, Bill Combs and two sisters, Ruth Ann Dobbins and Deborah Bell. Also surviving are a host of extended relatives and good friends.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 19, 2017 from 1 to 2 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Don Bahr officiating. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the the Childrens Home in Paragould, Arkansas in care of the funeral home. Interment will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington.
