FARMINGTON Frances Zolman, of Farmington, passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 4, 2017 at Parkland Health Center in Farmington at the age of 93. She was born in Doe Run on November 11, 1923 to the late John DeMand and Margaret (Miller) DeMand. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, William Zolman in 1993 and two brothers, John DeMand and Jake DeMand.
Frances grew up in the Pilot Knob area and graduated from high school at Ironton where she was very proud to have been a member of the volley ball team. She went on to cosmetology school and became a beautician. She worked in Ironton as a hair stylist and later had her own shop named "Frans" in her home in Doe Run. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farmington. An avid Cardinal Baseball fan, Frances also enjoyed fishing and playing cards. In her earlier years, she and William enjoyed square dancing. Her family will fondly remember her wonderful chicken and dumplings and liver dumplings.
She will be missed by all who loved her, including two daughters, Angela (Mrs. Norman) Steffens of St. Louis and Mary Beth (Mrs. Bill) Baker of Farmington; two granddaughters, Christine (Mrs. Klay) Buckley of Iowa City, Iowa and Susan (Mrs. Billy) Ratz of St. Louis; four great grandchildren, Kristopher Buckley, Kate Buckley, Natalie Ratz and Cameron Ratz; and one niece, Peggy Gilreath of Alton, IL.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Meals on Wheels for Special Diets at Parkland Hospital or St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Joseph Church.
