Flora Laverne Defreece

LaVerne (Lore Fitzgerald) DeFreece, of Farmington, passed away at home on Sunday, October 25, 2015, under the loving care of her family. She was born on May 24, 1934, at home in Junca, daughter of the late Herbert Hadley Lore and Bessie Coquess (Hardy) Lore. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert Ray Lore, her sister, LaDon (Lore) DeFreece and her faithful canine companion, Sir Winston of McIlvane. LaVerne was a life-long resident of the area. She was retired from the Correctional Treatment Center, where she had worked for fifteen years as a psychiatric registered nurse. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, horticulture, hunting and antiquing. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington. She is survived by her husband, Dale DeFreece; sons, David (Belva) Fitzgerald, Paul (Robin) Fitzgerald, Danny (Mary Ellen) Fitzgerald; daughter, Lori (Brad) Langley; step-daughters, LaRee (Ken Gilberg) DeFreece and Julie (Chris) DeFreece; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; extended family and good friends. Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, from 5 - 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at First Baptist Church of Farmington beginning at 1 p.m. until the funeral beginning at 2 p.m. with Dr. Bill Miller officiating and Darrell Griffin sharing the eulogy. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
