Fern 'Audell' Murphy

KNOB LICK - Mrs. Fern "Audell" Murphy, of Knob Lick, passed away on August 2, 2022 at her home at the age of 99. She was born June 4, 1923 in Knob Lick to the late George and Trixie (Bayless) Wallace. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Alvin Bud Murphy in 2011; a daughter, Janice Johnson in 2014; two brothers, Winfred Wallace and June Wallace; and one grandson, Jay Christopher Nash. Fern was a lifelong resident of Knob Lick and one of the last surviving founders of the Knob Lick Church of God. The church was her passion throughout her life and it was there that she taught Sunday School, was a song leader, was the Bible School director and on the food committee. She was also the Knob Lick representative for the Union Electric Planned Progress Committee. Fern was first and foremost a homemaker, wife and mother, however, she sold Avon for over 30 years, making many lifelong friends along her routes. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, sewing, genealogy. Being the history buff that she was, she also provided many factual stories and pictorial contributions for several local authors. Survivors include her son, Wayne (Staci Faubion) Murphy; Grandchildren, Ken (Lisa) Nash, Nathan Johnson and Nicole (Jake) Oppelt; great grandchildren, Cynthia Cofer, Kristin (Dylan) Benscoter, Caden Johnson and one great great grandchild, Kinley Cofer; special nephew and wife, Terry and Sharon Wallace; and a host of extended family. There will be a visitation at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 4, 2022 from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Friday morning until the funeral service beginning at 10 am. In the Cozean Chapel with Reverend Gary Hall officiating. Interment will follow in the Knob Lick Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Knob Lick Church of God.
