Father Albert A. Rehme

TERRE DU LAC " Reverend Father Albert August Rehme, Jr., 81, baptized into the hope of Christ's resurrection on Thursday, March 29, 2012. He was born in St. Louis, to the late Albert A. Sr. and Agnes A. (nee Loos) Rehme on December 13, 1930. He graduated from Sts. Mary and Joseph Grade School, St. Louis Preparatory Seminary High School and Cardinal Glennon College. His four years of theological studies were at Kenrick Theological Seminary in St. Louis. On March 17, 1956, Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter ordained him to the priesthood at the St. Louis Cathedral. After ordination he attended the St. Louis University Graduate School, where he received a Master's Degree in Counseling and Psychology. His parish assignments as an associate pastor included Holy Ghost Parish in Berkeley, MO, St. Barbara's Parish in St. Louis, MO , and St. Joseph Parish in Farmington. During these years he taught full-time at Mercy High School, and then at Bishop DuBourg High School, finishing his teaching career in 1966 as Administrator of St. Joseph's Regional High School in Farmington, MO. In 1967 he was appointed full-time chaplain at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center (then called Farmington State Hospital No. 4) and Pastor of Ste. Catherine of Alexandria Parish in Coffman, MO. He remained pastor at Ste. Catherine's Parish for 13 years and Director of Pastoral Care at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center for 26 years. He retired, due to ill health, in December 1992, to his home in Terre du Lac, outside Bonne Terre. Father Rehme is survived by his sisters, Audrey M. Angevine of Ballwin, and Anne K. Rehme of New Jersey. He was a dear uncle, great-uncle, and friend to many. The family will receive friends at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory from 5 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 3rd, with Parish Rosary at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Father Albert Mattler celebrating and Father Rickey Valleroy and Father James Dyer con-celebrating and Reverend Monsignor Mark Rivituso, V.G. representing the Archbishop of St. Louis. Private family interment at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to Masses or Catholic Charities.
