Buel Eugene Dement, formerly of Farmington, passed away January 20, 2008, at the Freeman Hospital East at Joplin, MO, at the age of 81 years. He was born on May 11, 1926, at Ironton, MO, the son of the late Arthur Elmer and Sally Ethel (McMurry) Dement. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ralph. Before moving to Joplin, Mr. Dement worked for the Botkin Lumber Co. and for a time owned and operated his own logging business. He also was employed for 30 years as a service station attendant for the Martin Oil Co. He was a long-time member of the Nazarene Church of Farmington and later the Calvary Church of the Nazarene at Joplin. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading Western novels and the Bible. He loved animals, nature and farming. He is survived by his wife, Etta Mae (Fox) Dement, six sons and three daughters: Ronald Earl Dement (Denise), Dennis Wayne Dement (Cindy), Janet Darlene (Mrs. Tim) Morgan, and Kathy Louise (Mrs. Gary) Romine, all of Farmington, Oman Eugene Dement (Joyce) and Kevin Dwain Dement, both of Joplin, Joyce Elaine (Mrs. Jim) Clement of Carthage, Carl Edward Dement (Barbara) of Fredericktown, and Ricky Lee Dement (Jaime) of Wentzville. Also surviving are four brothers, Jimmy Dement of Arnold, Bob Dement of Potosi, Carl Dement of Ironton, and Darrell Dement of Centerville and a sister, Alma McKittrick of Silva, MO, 22 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all. The family will receive friends at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at the Farmington Church of the Nazarene at 9 a.m. with a funeral service at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ricky Dement officiating, assisted by the Rev. Tim Morgan, the Rev. Scott Dement, and Carl Dement. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
