ANNAPOLIS - Ervin L. Kirby passed away December 13, 2014 at the age of 80. He was born in Lyons, Indiana on April 3, 1934 to the late Kenneth Thomas and Mary Magdeline (Swaggerty) Kirby. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Thomas Kirby. "Erv", or Mr. E as some called him, grew up in Indiana where he graduated from high school in Epsom at the age of eighteen. In 1956 he was drafted into the military where he proudly served his country in the U. S. Army as a motor pool specialist from until 1958 when he was honorably discharged. In 1968 he relocated to the Park Hills area and later to Annapolis. He worked for ASARCO as a maintenance mechanic for nineteen years. In retirement Erv was the ultimate "tinkerer" who loved to work on cars and other projects. He was a person who could fix anything. He will be remembered as a generous person who was eager to help anyone he could. His sense of humor was keen and he was a great jokester. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Loretta (Sittig) Kirby, eight children; nineteen grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, James Arthur Kirby. There will be a celebration of life at the Kirby home in Annapolis at a later time.
