DACULA, GA- Edward "Ed" Lee Mackley, 69, formerly of Farmington, passed away at his daughter's home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 after a year-long battle with cancer. He was born at Bonne Terre Hospital on December 3, 1944 to the late Melbourne Fleming and Sylvia Mary Catherine (Rickard) Mackley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Rickard Mackley, and a sister, Betty Jean Yeager. Ed grew up a part of a large family and graduated with the Farmington High School Class of 1964. He was the former owner and operator of the Mackley Ice Company in Farmington and was known as the "Ice Man" throughout Farmington and surrounding communities. Once retired, he built and maintained a genealogical website, www.mackleygenealogy.com, with thousands of Missouri obituaries and other historical tidbits. He loved spending time with his large family, especially his grandchildren. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandra (Skaggs) Mackley; daughters Karri Lucas and husband Ed of New York, NY, and Sarah Gonnella and husband Jay of Dacula, GA; five grandchildren, Brock, Jake, Sydney, Gavin, and Riley; six brothers and sisters, Mary J. Christy and husband John of Poplar Bluff, Patricia J. Patterson of Brookings, OR, Judith A. Butler of Farmington, Linda K. Foreman and husband Ken of Oak Ridge, Melba Elaine Moore of Colorado Springs, CO, and George Kenneth Mackley and wife Debe of St. Robert. Friends may call 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2014 at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with the Reverend Trinity Mackley of Tallahassee, FL officiating. Following the service, family will gather at a reception hosted by the First Baptist Church of Desloge at 411 N. Harding St., Desloge, MO. Memorials may be made in his name to Farmington Public Library's Genealogy Department at 108 W. Harrison St., Farmington, MO.
