Earl W. Burnette

Earl William Burnette, 92, of Farmington passed away at home on Sunday, August 24, 2014 with his loving family at his side. He was born on July 26, 1922 in Farmington, son of the late Andrew Scott and Rose Elizabeth (Merryman) Burnette. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Helen M. Burnette and five brothers, Andrew, Thomas, James, Clarence and Harold Burnette. Earl was a life long resident of Farmington and had worked as a meat cutter in the grocery business for many years. Many of those years were spent working at Holmes Tomboy Market where he made many close and caring friendships with customers. During World War II, Earl served his country in the U. S. Army in the American, European, African, and Middle East campaigns. He received the Good Conduct Ribbon, Victory Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon and three Bronze Stars. He married the love of his life, Juanita Lawana Mecey on December 6, 1943, who survives. Earl was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. In addition to his wife, Earl is survived by his children, Donna, Elizabeth, Paula and David; eight grandchildren, Rob, Polly, Matthew, Andrea, Jeffrey, Ricky, Cory and Zoe; fourteen great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, August 27, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Hope or to Veterans With Hope.
