Dr. Neil Edward Bishop, Ph. D.

Dr. Neil Edward Bishop, Ph. D., of Farmington, passed away on Monday, December 28, 2009, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center, at the age of 68 years. He was born on May 22, 1941, at St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Helen (Taylor) Bishop Hitt and Byron L. Hitt. On July 18, 1964, Dr. Bishop married Paulette Lettie Holtzen at Lanesville, IN. He received his B. A. in Education at Concordia University at River Forest, and his M. A. and Ph. D. in Educational Psychology and Counseling at The University of Oklahoma. He was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity. Dr. Bishop was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Farmington. He was an active church member, a member of the Mens Club, and a strong supporter of St. Paul Lutheran School. Before retirement, he was employed from 1979 to 2002 by Southeast Missouri State University as Field Experience Coordinator for Student Teachers. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Lettie Holtzen Bishop of Farmington, a daughter, Katherine Bishop of Murphysboro, IL, and a son, David Bishop of Cape Girardeau. His church family at St. Paul Lutheran Church, and many friends and neighbors as well. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 1, 2010. Visitation will resume at 7 to 9 a.m. on Saturday. A funeral service will follow at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. with Pastor James King officiating assisted by Pastor David Oddi.
