Dr. Jack V. Gallagher

Dr. Jack V. Gallagher, of Farmington, passed away December 15, 2014 at the age of 84 years. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on May 9, 1930 to the late Robert and Catherine Gallagher. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Cecelia (Muttillo) Gallagher in 1987; five brothers and sisters, Robert Gallagher, Catherine Gallagher, Genevieve Redmond, William Gallagher and Mary Gallagher. Born and raised in Cleveland, Jack attended college at John Carroll University where he graduated with a degree in Chemistry. Soon after undergraduate school he married his sweetheart, Cecelia on June 27, 1953. Very shortly after their marriage, Jack was accepted to work as a chemist on the Hydrogen Bomb Project. He was instrumental in isolating the Radial-Isotope Deuterium that was responsible for the reaction. Upon his return from his service he then went to medical school in 1954 at the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Missouri where he earned his medical degree as a Doctor of Osteopathy. In time he furthered his medical degree in General Surgery. He and Cecelia moved to Farmington with their four children in 1965 where he began a successful practice as a General Surgeon at Mineral Area Regional Medical Center, formerly MAOH. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather as well as a dedicated physician who had a strong passion for his profession. Survivors include his four children; Jack Vincent Gallagher and wife, Elizabeth, Jennifer Ann O'Neal and husband, Greg, Dr. Brian Joseph Gallagher and wife, Donna and Laura Jean Samuelson and husband, David; nine grandchildren; a special friend, Millie Gilmore and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, December 17, 2014 from 4 - 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Thursday morning at 7 - 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farmington at 10 a.m. with Father James Dyer as Celebrant. Interment will be held at New Calvary Cemetery.
