CAPE GIRARDEAU - Dr. Charles H. Cozean Jr, 86, of Cape Girardeau, Missouri died Monday, January 9, 2023, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 4, 1936, in Bonne Terre, Missouri, to the late Charles Hugo Cozean and Zelda Martin Cozean. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robin Cozean and a sister, Mary Cozean Alexander.
He married Carole Lee Eberhart on August 22, 1959, in Farmington, Missouri.
Cozean graduated from Farmington High School in 1954, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine in 1962. Cozean served in the United States Air Force as a Captain and Chief of Ophthalmology at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas. He was honorably discharged in 1968 and returned to Southeast Missouri.
Dr. Cozean opened the Cozean Eye Clinic in Cape Girardeau, Missouri in 1968. He practiced ophthalmology for more than 40 years. He was an avid golfer, a patron of the arts, a member of the Southeast Missouri State University Symphony Board and Cape Girardeau Lions' Club.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, John (Nicole) Cozean of Sikeston, Missouri, Charles Cozean, III of Loveland, Colorado; daughter, Laura (Bart) DeBrock of Vincennes, Indiana; brother, Dr. Jon Dennis Cozean of Farmington, Missouri; sisters, Nancy Jacob of Farmington, Missouri and Jody (Harry) Styron of Branson, Missouri; four grandchildren, Jack Cozean of Sikeston, Missouri, Erica Bunker of Washington DC, Dr. William DeBrock of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and Victoria DeBrock of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 15, 2023 at the funeral home with the Rev. A.J. Wollenburg officiating.
Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Cape Girardeau Lions Club.
