Dorothy Mae Jarvis of Farmington passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the age of 99 years, 11 months, and 18 days. She was born on August 8, 1911, at Sheridan, AR, daughter of the late John Edward and Birdie Mae (Hardin) Bowen. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two infant sons, William Edward and Dana Jefferey and by a daughter, Carol Jean "Kelly" Huckaba, and siblings, Elsie, Lester and Arlie Bowen. Dorothy attended school in Arkansas where she very much enjoyed playing basketball. At the age of thirteen she moved to Bismarck with her family. She later moved to Salem, MO, where she met her husband of 74 years, William "Buck" Jarvis. She was a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for her selfless attitude, gentle spirit and dedication to her family. Survivors include her husband, Buck; five children, Cindy Schmidt and husband Ken of Chesterfield, MO, Shirley Wilson and husband David, Kay Miller and husband Jerry, Jack Jarvis and wife Cathy, and Rebecca Russell and husband Terry, all of Farmington; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are a son-in-law, Larry Huckaba, a nephew, Jim Bowen and wife Jeanie and a niece, Susan Swindell and husband Doyle. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 28. Visitation will resume Friday from 7 a.m. until the beginning of the service at 11 a.m. at the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. David Bates officiating. Interment will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Gideons International or to Presbyterian Manor's Good Samaritan Fund.
