FARMINGTON Dorothy "Joanna" Gratton of Farmington passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Festus. She was born at Coridan, Missouri on June 28, 1936 daughter of the late Joseph Wilson and Dorothy Lucille (Dement) Jackson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Gairhart Arthur Gratton and her son Gary Jo Gratton.
Joanna was a retired seamstress having worked several years for the Biltwell Clothing Company of Farmington. She was a long-time and active member of the Farmington Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In her spare time she enjoyed looking at pictures of her "6 Boys", watching Bonanza, and playing with her puppy "Pooty." In her younger years she loved dancing with her siblings. She was known by her boys at the quickest draw with the fly swatter. She kept an immaculate, clean, white home. She and her husband Gary took the boys camping often and enjoyed loving on their boys and later their grandchildren. Her best friend in the world
was her sister Jean and she would do anything Jean wanted her to do!
Those who knew Joanna, can remember seeing her walk all over town. She didn't ever drive
a care until she was 66 years old.
No one has ever met a more devoted wife than Joanna was to her husband after his second stroke.
She ceaselessly spent 8 to 10 hours a day at the nursing home caring for his needs.
She is survived by five sons, John H. Gratton of Springfield, Larry "Doodle" (& Debbie) Gratton of Yuba City, California, Jeff L. (& Bridget) Gratton of Farmington, David A. (& Jackie) Gratton of Rigby, Idaho, and Daren Gratton of St. Louis, seven brothers and sisters Dale (& Jan) Jackson, Dick (& Sandra) Jackson, Jean (& Don) Hermann, Elaine (& Alan) Emert, Joe (& Gina) Jackson, Jr., Paul (& Pam) Jackson and Mark Jackson, eighteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, numerous other relatives and many dear friends and neighbors.
