FARMINGTON - Dorothy Blumenberg, of Farmington, passed away on December 31, 2022, just eight days before her 101st birthday. She was born January 8, 1922 near Farmington to Stanley and Theresa Resinger. Stanley, a widower, had four children: Everett, Charlotte (Lottie), Bertha, and Emmett. Theresa, a widow, had son Wilford and twins Otto and Frieda. Stanley and Theresa had four children: Vernon, Dorothy, Leeman, and Alfred. Dorothy loved the story of her parents meeting on a train on the trestle near Weingarten. Dorothy grew up in rural Ste. Genevieve County where she attended the one-room Chestnut Ridge Grade School. The only high school option was a daily trip to Ste. Genevieve; neither she nor her brothers were able to take advantage of this opportunity. Dorothy met her husband Wilmer (Rip) when he returned from CCC camp in Idaho and joined his family who had moved to Chestnut Ridge. They were married June 29, 1940, in Bonne Terre in a ceremony conducted by their previous pastor Harold Covington and attended by Rips sister Helen and Dorothys brother Vernon. She remembered Rip playing a baseball doubleheader the following day. When Rip found employment at Mississippi Lime Company, they moved to Ste. Genevieve. There they had a son Wayne and daughter Janet, both born at home. After moving back to Chestnut Ridge in 1947, they had another daughter, Anna Denise. Dorothy and Rip enjoyed many activities together in church, school, and community. After Rips retirement, they played golf nearly daily; Dorothy was proud of her hole-in-one on Zell Golf Course. They performed in a square dance club which traveled to other parts of Missouri. Following Rips death, Dorothy volunteered in Parkland Hospitals gift shop as well as in Farmington Senior Center where she met good friend, Myron Wines. Following his death, she continued at the Senior Center but also spent time with knitting and crocheting. Her goal of making 100 childrens hats to donate for Christmas continued into 2022. Dorothy leaves behind her three children, Wayne (Dorothy), Janet (Philip), and Denise; grandchildren, Teresa, Lori, Brian, Darla, Kyle, Ellie, Laura, Meredith, Brandon, Jared, Anna, and Ethan; 21 great-grandchildren plus one on the way; and 15 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind son-in-law Dan Nicholson, who blessed her with great kindness. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2022 at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Chestnut Ridge Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church or to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital. View the tribute video and share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
