FARMINGTON Dorothy B. Simmons of Farmington passed away in her home surrounded by her loving family on May 11, 2016 at the age of 87. She was born in Henning, Tennessee on May 30, 1928 to the late James Ollie and Iva (Spray) McPherson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Lolard Alan Simmons, Sr. in 2008; a son, Mark Lee Simmons in 2006 and a grandson, Matthew V. Arnold in 2015.
As a child Dorothy moved to the Pacific, Missouri area. As a young adult she moved to St. Louis where she worked for the Rexall Drug Company. While there she met the love of her life, Lolard. After their marriage they raised a family in Alton, Illinois where they pastored Curdie Heights Baptist Church for 28 years. They moved on to Casa Grande, Arizona where they pastored at Calvary Baptist Church for three years. They served as home missionaries in Arizona for many more years until retirement. Dorothy and Lolard built a home in Farmington where she enjoyed gardening and flowers. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life and spending time with them was her passion. She will be fondly remembered by her loved ones for the great love and devotion she had for her husband.
Survivors include her children, Doris J. (Mrs. Terry) Arnold, of Carson City, Nevada, Alan (Candy) Simmons of Fredericktown and Twyla (Mrs. Harry) Paul of Poquoson, Virginia; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren with one more on the way; two brothers, Charles "Junior" McPherson and Harold McPherson; one sister, Judy DuVall; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and good friends.
Visitation will be held at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Monday, May 16, 2016 from 12:30 to 2 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m. with Dr. Terry W. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Little Vine Cemetery in Fredericktown. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Serenity Hospice, Inc.
