Dorothy Alice Herbst

FARMINGTON Dorothy Alice Herbst, of Farmington passed away June 14, 2017 at Parkland Health Care in Farmington at the age of 77. She was born on February 21, 1940 in Scott City, Missouri to the late Lawrence C. and Jewell A (Davis) Hager.

After graduation from high school Dorothy became a licensed cosmetologist and worked in that profession for a short time before going to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She worked for Southwestern Bell for a good number of years before going to work for Parkland Hospital where she worked in patient accounts for seventeen years. In her retirement Dorothy enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting, working in the yard and family camping trips. She especially enjoyed spoiling and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Harold Herbst; her daughters, Debra Jean Cheek and Carla Marie Herbst-Mayberry, all of Farmington; four grandchildren, Tori Marie (Cletus T.) Gowen, Dane Harold Cheek, Steven Leonard Mayberry and Jesse Carl Mayberry; great grandchildren, Allie Marlene Gowen and Reese Elizabeth Gowen; and a sister, Carolyn Jean Whitmire of North Carolina.
