Doris Crites

Doris May Crites of Farmington passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012, at the age of 87. She was born on October 29, 1924, at St. Louis, daughter of the late Otto Guy and Emma Augusta (Carmickle) Hopkins. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Gary Crites; one brother, Lee Hopkins and one sister, Betty Jo Brown. Doris and her family moved to St. Francois County when she was a child where she was raised on the "Hopkins Farm". She and William Junior Crites were married in Farmington and moved to Doe Run where they raised seven children. She was a homemaker and also for a time was employed as a cook by Thomas Dell Nursing Home. After retiring from the nursing home she enjoyed playing Bingo. She was an avid traveler who had seen a lot of the country. Doris will be sadly missed by her many loved ones. Survivors include six children, Martin Crites and wife, Pam, Paula Gebhardt and husband, Rick, Ruth Crites, William R. Crites, all of Farmington, Catherine Sue Bratti of Steelville, Joyce Hopkins and husband, Rickie, of Fort Worth, TX; fifteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Friday, October 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the time of the service beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Farmington.
