Donald Stephen Effrein

FARMINGTON Donald Stephen Effrein, of Farmington, passed away March 1, 2016 at The Arbors at Maplebrook at the age of 85. He was born January 18, 1931 to the late Edward and Juanita (McAtee) Effrein. In addition to to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores (Bell) Effrein in March of 1995; a sister, Janet Effrein in September of 1950 and a brother, Edward Effrein in April of 2015.

Donald was a long time member of the Farmington community having graduated from Farmington High School in 1949 where he was a member of the varsity football team and where he also ran track. He earned a BS in Business from the Univerity of Missouri in 1953. He served as a Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force before returning to Farmington. In August of 1956 Don married Dolores Bell and Kansas City eventually became their home where Don began a career as a loan officer for Farm and Home Savings and Loan. The family would return to Farmington in 1973 to begin his career with Ozarks Federal, eventually becoming President in 1982.

Survivors include his children Stephanie Effrein (Douglas) Helfrich of St. Peters, Missouri and Steve (Stephanie Hoehn) Effrein of Farmington; four grandchildren, Patrick Helfrich, Ryan Helfrich, Sam Effrein and Addison Effrein; and a brother, George (Mary) Effrein of Quincy, Illinois.

There will be a Funeral Mass on Monday, March 7, 2016 at St Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington beginning at 10:00 a.m. with Father James Dyer as Celebrant. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Farmington with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington.
