Donald Polacek

FARMINGTON Donald Polacek, passed October 2, 2017 at Parkland Health Center South in Farmington at the age of 89. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 6, 1928 to the late Frank J. and Ella (Stanek) Polacek. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Donald R. Polacek, Jr. on October 2, 1983 and his sister, Ruth Miller.

Donald proudly served in the Navy Air Corps just prior to the Korean conflict. When he returned to civilian life he worked for the Milwaukee Pacific Railroad before he went to work for the U. S. Postal Service where he was employed from 1962 to 1988. He retired as Supervisor of Mails in Illinois. In November of 2006 he moved to Farmington where he was a member and past historian of the American Legion 416, the St. Francois County Historical Society and a member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington. An avid reader, Donald had a special interest in the American Revolutionary Era and had a collection of readings from that era. He also enjoyed spending time solving crossword and word search puzzles. He will be lovingly remembered by his family as a kind, gentle man who loved the Lord and had a strong faith in God.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, El Nora "Ellie" (Shultz) Polacek; a son, Daniel (Dawn) Polacek; his granddaughter, Bryanne (Tony) Morsch; grandson, Braden (Paige) Polacek; great granddaughter, Vivian Morsch; several nieces, nephews in Illinois, Iowa and Texas and extended family.

A memorial gathering will be Tuesday, October 10 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Farmington followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Jason Welker officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Donalds name to the Farmington Public Library or the First Baptist Church Library.
