Donald L. Barton

FARMINGTON - Donald L. Barton of Farmington, MO, passed away Friday, September 28, at Parkland Health Center. Born on September 12, 1939, to the late Melvin L. and Isabelle R. (Mothershead) Barton in St. Louis, MO, Don resided for the majority of his life in Farmington. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School in St. Louis. He studied at Central Methodist College and completed his undergraduate degree then MSW at the University of Missouri Columbia. Don began his career at the Farmington State Hospital in 1963. At the end of his career he served as Superintendent at Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center. He was also an adjunct professor at Mineral Area College for many years. Don was also an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He also served on many boards throughout his life in Farmington. He was married to Jane H. Barton (Amrhein), who preceded him in death in 2021. Don is survived by his children Laura Ruest (Mike), Craig Barton (Mary) and his grandchildren Jeremy Barton and Erica Ruest. He is also survived by his sisters Virginia Mounts and Diana Alcorn as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2023, from 11:00am until time of service at 1:30pm at Cozean Memorial Chapel. Interment to follow at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre.
