Donald K. Cheesebrough

Donald Keith Cheesebrough passed away on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at the age of 98. He was born on February 17, 1914, at Flat River, son of the late Samuel and Caroline (Chandler) Cheesebrough. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dovie (Pullen) Cheesebrough; three brothers, Paul Cheesebrough, Howard Tetley and Glenwood Lees and two sisters, Inez Langelier and Audrey Boxdorfer. The fifth child of Samuel and Caroline Cheesebrough, Donald was orphaned in 1918 when his mother died in the flu epidemic of that year and his father was killed in a mining accident a few months later. He was taken in and raised by his Uncle Theodore Chandler and his family. He served in the National Guard from 1939 to 1941 and in the Army from 1941 and 1946. He was in France during WWII. After the war he worked with his brother, Glenwood Lees in the grocery business for over 40 years in Lees' Shopping Center. Don was active in many service organizations. He was a member of the VFW, The American Legion, The Masonic Lodge and The Shriners. He served in leadership positions in these organizations and was very active in their charitable activities. For example, he served as president of the Shriners and he was the leader of the Skeeter Patrol, the Scooter parade team of the Shriners in Farmington for many years. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Farmington since childhood. Survivors include his beloved daughter, Donna Jean Cheesebrough of Farmington and numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Thursday, May 31 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday at 7 a.m. until the beginning of the service beginning at 10 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Dr. Rick Broadway officiating. Interment will be at St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital or the Memorial United Methodist Church.
