Donald Joe McCollom, of Doe Run, passed away March 16, 2013 at Camelot Nursing Center in Farmington at the age of 78. He was born in East Prairie, Missouri on March 9, 1935 to the late Joe and Nona (Lucas) McCollom. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Lucas and Elbert McCollom. Donald grew up in East Prairie where he was well known for his outstanding athletic abilities, especially with basketball. He received one of the first full scholarships from East Prairie High School to play basketball at the University of Missouri in Columbia. Donald will be remembered by many as "Pick" when he received that nickname after becoming an accomplished flat top guitar player. He and his family had a music ministry throughout central Missouri for many years. He was an avid fisherman and sports enthusiast. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Shelby Jean (Schneider) McCollom; three children, Carol Jean Hoffman, Donald Ray McCollom and Joseph Dale McCollom; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and special friends, Wayne and Doris Adkisson. Private services will be planned for a later time for Mr. McCollom. Memorials in Donald's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
