FARMINGTON – Donald E. Weiss of Farmington, passed away unexpectedly at his home on September 9, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born in Bonne Terre, Missouri on January 26, 1957, to the late Robert Theodore Weiss and Ruth Marie (King) Weiss. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Eugene Weiss; a nephew Brian Weiss; sister-in-law, Barbara Weiss and brother-in-law, James Skaggs.
Donald was a 1975 graduate of Farmington High School. From a very early age, he worked on his parent's farm near Doe Run. Later he and his brother, Dennis went into business raising laying hens. They stayed very busy having as many as 35,000 chickens at one time. After nine years, they sold the poultry operation. He then worked for St. Louis Refrigerated Car in St. Louis for eight years until he moved closer to home for employment working locally at Little Tykes and Mississippi Lime. He ultimately went to work at U. S. Tool as an industrial maintenance technician until his retirement in April of 2022. His passion and his hobby was farming. He maintained 75 head of cattle and did custom hay baling. Donald was an avid turkey and deer hunter. More than anything, he loved spending time with family, especially his four grandsons who he adored. Family always came first.
Donald’s family will lovingly remember how they could always count on him for anything and also his giving nature. Being of German heritage it would be amiss not to mention he was very strong-willed.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary (Schlosser) Weiss; his children, Kimberly Elizabeth (Weiss) Jackson, and son, Matthew Aaron (April) Weiss; grandsons, Samuel Owen Weiss, Easton Matthew Jackson, Maxon Emmanuel Weiss and Benjamin Noah Weiss; his siblings, Robert (Joan) Weiss, Virginia Skaggs, Norman Weiss, Thelma (Pat) Zimmerman, David Weiss, Harold Weiss and Dennis (Donna) Weiss; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at Cozean Memorial Chapel beginning at 12:30 p.m. until the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Dr. Darlene Williams officiating.
