Dewey Red Thurman of Farmington, passed away on Saturday, February 03, 2007, at Parkland Health Center, at the age of 85 years. He was born on September 26, 1921, in Omaha, NE, the son of the late George Dewey and Margaret (Baker) Thurman. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline (Watts) Thurman (1996), and a brother, Ted Thurman. Mr. Thurman proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in World War II, with the 951st AAA Battalion. He was a member of the American Legion Post #416, VFW Post #5896, and the Masonic Lodge of Farmington. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Thurman was kept busy after retirement doing odd construction jobs for his many friends. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time, but most of all he cherished being with his family. He is survived by a son, Tracy Thurman of Park Hills, a daughter, Carol Mason and husband, Gerald of Scottsdale, AZ, three grandchildren, Denise McMurry (Brian) of Austin, TX, and Brian and Eric Mason of Scottsdale, AZ. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. on Monday, February 5, 2007. An American Legion service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. A funeral service will be held at the Cozean Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday with the Rev. James Lacey and the Rev. Jacob Pollard officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the Farmington Fire Department, St. Francois County Ambulance District or to Parkland Health Center ER.
