Deveda Bishop

February 7, 1919 — December 2, 2010

DeVeda M. (Summers) Bishop of Farmington passed away on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at Camelot Nursing and Rehab Center, at the age of 91 years. She was born on February 7, 1919, at Hinch, MO, daughter of the late Hattie (Clonts) and Roy Summers. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, John Allen and by two brothers. DeVeda spent her childhood in Hinch where she attended school in a one room school house through the eighth grade. She went on to attend high school in Sullivan where she graduated in 1938. She spent many an hour in the Hinch General Store which was owned by her grandmother from 1895 to 1955. During World War II DeVeda worked in the Small Arms Plant in St. Louis where it was not unusual for her to work many days without a day off. She retired from a career at St. Marys Hospital in St. Louis where she was a seamstress. Handwork and sewing was her passion but more than anything she was proud of her loving family and very much enjoyed spending time with them. She was a long time, faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Farmington. She is survived by a son, Keith Bishop and wife Jeanette of Farmington, a daughter, Beverly Allen of the State of Colorado, two grandchildren, Douglas Bishop and Christine Sanders and husband Daniel, all of Farmington, and five great-grandchildren, Anastasia Bishop, Benjamin Bishop, Cynthiana Bishop, Alaina Sanders and Emma Sanders. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 2 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2010. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service at 10 a.m. with Dr. William Miller officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Sullivan, MO. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, or the Farmington Ministerial Alliance Food Pantry.
