Deacon Albin August Andrew Gegg

FARMINGTON Albin August Andrew Gegg, fortified with the sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed away Thursday, August 4, 2016 at Presbyterian Manor in Farmington at the age of 84 years. He was born on November 21, 1931 at Coffman son of the late August L. and Regina C. (Hermann) Gegg. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son Charles A. Gegg, daughter Cynthia Ann Marler, two brothers Edgar Gegg and Leonard Gegg, and three sisters Louise Joggerst, Mildred Stumpf, and Anna Joggerst.

Al grew up in Ste. Genevieve County and attended school there. He later attended Flat River Junior College and began a career with the U.S. Postal Service where he worked for 20 plus years. On February 9, 1952 he was united in marriage to Miss Norma Jean Seitz. The couple made their home in Farmington and raised their family there. He was a long-time member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington and later accepted the call to ministry and was ordained into the permanent deaconate of the Catholic Church on June 6, 1992 by then Archbishop John L. May. Al served St. Joseph Parish as a deacon for twenty years until his health forced him to retire in 2012. He was a member and past Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus Council # 12332.

He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his wife, Norma Jean "Jeanie" Gegg of Farmington, a daughter Barbara (& Timothy) Harrison of Eau Claire, Wisconsin a son Timothy (& Barbara) Gegg of St. Louis, son-in-law Brad Marler of Olathe, Kansas, sister-in-law Dottie Gegg of Ste. Genevieve, five grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives and dear friends and neighbors.

Visitation will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington on Sunday, August 7, 2016 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 8th at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Rickey Valleroy and Father James Dyer as celebrants. Interment will be in the New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Masses or to the St. Vincent DePaul Society Building Fund of St. Joseph Parish.
