FARMINGTON - Dr. David G. Yahnke passed away October 16, 2017, at Camelot Nursing and Rehab Center in Farmington, at the age of 77. He was born in Joliet, Illinois, on April 12, 1940, to the late Elmer Frederick and Jeanette Gross Yahnke.
In 1957, David graduated from Griffith High School in Griffith, Indiana, where he was involved in Scouting and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He furthered his education at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he was inducted into the United States Air Force in August of 1971, at Travis Air Force Base, in Fairfield, California. He proudly served until he was honorably discharged in August of 1973 with the rank of Major.
David was a dedicated physician, having a long career in Obstetrics and Gynecology. In 1993, he came to Farmington from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was on the staff at Medical Arts Clinic.
In his spare time, David enjoyed golfing and was also a patron of the St. Louis Opera. He enjoyed music of all genres. He was a member of the Military Miniature Society of Illinois and the Artist Preservation Group. He enjoyed collecting military miniature figurines, a hobby which transpired from his interest in military history.
He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, including his wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Rist) Yahnke. He was a devoted father to his two daughters, Karen (John) Bump of Chicago, Illinois, and Kristin Yahnke of Indianapolis, Indiana; adoring PawPaw to his two grandchildren, Katie and Michael Bump of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving are his niece Beth (Dan) Hovious and their daughter Rachel and nephew Doug (Kim) Rist and their sons Andrew and Evan. Most of all he treasured the time spent with family and friends.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 20, 2017, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Memorial United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 21 at 10 a.m., with the Reverend Scott Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Hillview Memorial Gardens in Farmington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the religious or charitable organization of the donors choice.
