John David Dave Kinney of Farmington passed away on Monday, May 19, 2008, at the Siteman Cancer Center at the age of 55 years. He was born on Wednesday, June 18, 1952, at Farmington, son of the late Richard Monroe and Opal Viola (Canter) Kinney. He was also preceded in death by a daughter Stephanie Kinney, two sisters, Ree Hicks and Jane Jones, a brother, Jimmy Kinney, and brother-in-law/father, Bill Gonz. Mr. Kinney retired after 30 years as a dockhand from Yellow Freight in St. Louis. He was a member of the Union Teamster Local 600. Since retirement, Dave has worked part-time at Gifford Lumber Company in Farmington. Daves passion was playing baseball and softball. He played for over 35 years and had quite an arm in the outfield. He was a pitcher for many years in the American Legion League and more recently in the Over 40 League. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter and greatly enjoyed the outdoors. He also enjoyed golfing, woodworking, barbequing and spending time in his backyard. Dave was richly blessed with family and friends and will be sadly missed by all, especially his wife, Sonya (Nicholson) Kinney, three daughters, Heather Day (Clarence) of Barnhart, Cassandra Kinney of St. Louis and Madelyn Kinney of Farmington, a son, Zachry Kinney of Farmington, three grandsons, Karsten Kinney of Farmington, Landon and Connor Day, both of Barnhart, sister, Kayo Medley (Paulie) of Farmington, sister/mother, Billie Ann Gonz of Farmington, brother, Leroy Kinney (Donna) of Fredericktown, sister, Wanda Hambrick (Hank) of Farmington, sister, Linda Miller (Dearyl) of Farmington, and sister, Pam Harp (Larry) of Farmington. Numerous other relatives and many friends also survive. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday May 22 and 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday with a funeral service at the Cozean Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Alan Bayless officiating. Interment will follow in the Knob Lick Cemetery.
