FARMINGTON – Darrell J. Plummer, of Farmington, entered the gates of Heaven surrounded by his loved ones at Mercy Jefferson Hospital on September 22, 2024, at 11:45 p.m. at the age of 89. He was born in Knob Lick on January 7, 1935, to the late William Lester Plummer and Nora Evelyn (Martin) Plummer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Delores Plummer.
Darrell grew up in Knob Lick and from an early age he worked on his parents’ farm. He was a 1952 graduate of Farmington High School. Throughout the years Darrell & his brother Jim shared ownership in a gas station, a hardware store in Farmington and owned farmland where they raised cattle.
In 1969 Darrell, Rosie and the family performed music at a theatre in Piedmont, Mo called, The Clearwater Jamboree from 1969 through 1972.
In 1973, Darrell, Rosie, daughter Melody and son Randy moved to Branson, MO and began the Plummer Family Country Music Show. Their popular music show was the third theatre and the eleventh business to open on the Branson strip. Darrell was the emcee of the show, where he played the guitar, wrote songs, and sang. After eighteen years Darrell & Rosie retired and moved closer to their roots to Farmington. After a brief retirement, Darrell & Rosie went back to touring on the road doing many shows. Darrell especially enjoyed their Texas tour that they did many, many times.
In 2001, Darrell & Rosie opened the Plummer Family Theatre in Knob Lick and owned and operated it for a number of years.
Besides performing, another one of Darrell’s passions was raising cattle, but more than anything else he adored his children and grandchildren.
Darrell was a man of great faith. He was a faithful member of Iron Mountain First Baptist
Church.
Survivors include the love of his life, Rosie who had been his wife for 70 years; his children,
Melody Kay (Dale) Driskill and Randy Plummer, Gary Moore, and Holly Wicker; grandchildren Josh (Amber) Driskill and Jennie Lynn Moore; great-grandchildren, Lilly & Ilsa Driskill; a
brother James “Jim” Plummer and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the Knob Lick Cemetery at 11 a.m. with Pastors John Canterberry, Donn Adamson and Tony Hampton officiating. Share your condolences and memories at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
