Daisy Madeleine DeBoard, formerly of the Farmington and the Piedmont area, passed away at St. Johns Mercy Hospital, Washington, MO, on March 3, 2007, at the age of 90 years. She was born on January 21, 1917, at Chaonia, MO, the daughter of the late William and Anna Belle (Strickland) Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lawrence DeBoard, a daughter, Ann Sullivan, a granddaughter, Alana Carroll, and nine brothers and sisters. Mrs. DeBoard was a graduate of Washington University with a BS in education; she later received a masters in education degree with an emphasis on guidance, from SIU. She had 34 years in education with 14 years as a Guidance Counselor at Hazelwood Jr. High School. She was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association; Missouri Retired Teachers Association, a lifetime member of the St. Louis County Guidance Organization, the Order of Eastern Star, the Farmington First Baptist Church, and a Senator in Silver Haired Legislature for 10 years. She served as past president and board member of the St. Francois County Council on Aging, the Site Council of the Farmington Senior Center, the Department of Social Services Advisory Council, where she served as the State Task Force, Long Term Care; and Regional Representative of Retired Teachers Association of Missouri Region II for 6 years and past president and Legislative Committee of Mineral Area Retired Teachers Association and past president of the Southeast District of Retired Teachers Association, Chairman of Southeast Missouri Area Agency on Aging, Senior Alert Process Advocate in Washington, D.C. She also served as Legislative chairman of Delta Kappa Gamma, Health Chairman and Legislative Chairman of the St. Francois County AARP; she served for 17 years on SEMO AAA Board, and 20 years as State Silver Haired Legislature. Commerce Bank honored her with a luncheon and their annual gift in her honor to the Farmington Senior Center. She was honored as a Distinguished Older Missourian in 1998. She is survived by a son, James and wife Dana of St Louis, two daughters, Bette Brueggen and husband Hank, of Union, Connie Cranker and husband Bill of Hudson Falls NY, nine grandchildren, Alan Carroll, Allyson Carroll Harkins, Stephanie DeBoard Maddox, James R. DeBoard II, Jennifer Brown Farrar, Elizabeth Brown McDonald, David Leventhal, Julia Leventhal Maher, Sarah Leventhal, twenty five great-grandchildren, four great great- grandchildren, and a brother, William J Nelson, of Rolla. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday with a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. William Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery in Piedmont, MO. Memorials may be directed to the Farmington Senior Center.
