DOE RUN- Curtis Mathew Phelps of Doe Run passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at his home at the age of 71 years. He was born September 7, 1943 at Ironton son of the late Matthew Perry and Nina Belle (Smith) Phelps. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Edward Eugene Phelps. Curtis was retired from Monsanto Enviro Chemical where he was a Marketing Service Representative. He was a faithful member of the Esther United Methodist Church, the Meramec Elks Lodge # 2372 and was actively involved with Boy Scouts of America Troop 372. He was a man of many interests but particularly enjoyed music, his "side-job" making and selling kettle corn at carnivals, fairs, and local events, and woodworking. His greatest love, however, was his family, his wife, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his church family. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his wife Janice Elaine (Harrison) Phelps of Doe Run, children Tracey Nicole (Phelps) Kolano of House Springs and Jason Scott Phelps of St. Louis, grandchildren Ashley Nicole Walsh, Trinity Kacey Meador, Tristan Kole Meador, and Anthony Cole Kolano, two great-grandchildren Aiylah Nicole Walsh and Camdyn Jon Walsh, a sister Connie Asher of Hillsboro, and numerous other relatives, friends, and neighbors. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in the Cozean Chapel with the Rev. Paula Eschenbrenner officiating. Interment will be in the Ellington Memorial Cemetery at Ellington. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Greater St. Louis Area Council of Boy Scouts of America.
