Chyerl Gay Cartee

Chyerl Gay Cartee of Coffman passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, at the age of 58 years, 3 months and 11 days. She was born on October 25, 1952, at Perryville, daughter of the late Elijah B. and Alice Captola (Pirtle) Boyd. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Steckman. A lifelong resident of the area, Chyerl graduated from Farmington High School in 1970. Soon after high school she married her high school sweetheart, Donald W. Cartee, who survives. They lived in California and Germany during Don's tour of duty in the U. S. Air Force. After the service they returned to Coffman to raise their family. Chyerl was employed with Centenne Corporation for the past 11 years. She loved riding horses and was quite musical. She played many different instruments throughout her life. Chyerl belonged to the Saline Baptist Church in Minnith where she enjoyed being a part of their musical ministry. Spoiling her grandkids was her favorite pastime. In addition to her husband, Don, Chyerl is survived by her two children, Carla (Mrs. Cliff) Davis of Fredericktown and Jarrod Wayne Cartee and his wife Rebecca of St. Mary's; 8 grandchildren, Allison, Andrew, Cathryn, Cassandra, and Caraline Davis and Lauren, Nathaniel and Maize Cartee. Also surviving are a sister, Janice (Mrs. Jim) Gann, a brother, Jimmie Boyd and his wife Becky; a brother-in-law, Doug Cartee and his wife Denise; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 9 pm on Thursday evening, February 10. Visitation will resume on Friday from 7 am until the beginning of the funeral service at 10 am with Pastor Steve Berry officiating. Interment will follow at Mayberry Cemetery of Avon.
