Charlie Douglas Holliday

June 17, 1923 — December 18, 2013

Charlie Douglas Holliday of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at the age of 90. He was born on June 17, 1923, at Ste. Genevieve, son of the late William Holliday and Rosa (Propes) Gaston. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edythe (Rolens) Holliday in 2008 as well as all of his sisters and brothers. Also preceding him in death was one grandson, Les McDonald. A life long resident of the area, Charlie joined the U. S. Army at the age of 20. He proudly served his country during World War II where he was stationed in England as an ambulance driver. Upon his return to civilian life, Charlie went to work for MODOT where he retired after more than 40 years at the age of 62. He was an avid fisherman and hunter as well as an excellent tracker. He enjoyed growing huge vegetable gardens and proudly shared the produce with friends and neighbors. A person who never met a stranger, Charlie always had a story to tell. Survivors include his three daughters, Sally (Mrs. Larry) Heuman of Boonville, MO, Sharon (Mrs. Gayle) McDonald of Holton, KS and Karen Wirtmiller of Topeka, KS; three grandchildren, Mary Elizabeth (Mrs. Carl) Cannon of Ada, OK, Dale Heuman and wife, Norma of Green Ridge, MO, and Lynn (Mrs. Scott) Schumacher of Lexington, MO; six great-grandchildren and a special friend, Mrs. Opal Pyatt. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, December 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday morning beginning at 7 a.m. until the service at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Rev. Gene Rauls officiating. Interment will follow at Parkview Cemetery in Farmington. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
