Charles Quentin King

Charles Quentin King of Farmington, formerly of Doe Run, passed away October 24, 2011, at the age of 90 years. He was born July 5, 1921, in East Bonne Terre, to the late James Clarence King and Sallie Catherine Goff King. Also preceding him in death was a brother, Russell King and sister, Catherine King Weiss (Gilbert deceased). Charles (Quentin) enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp in 1942 and was a waist gunner on the B17 Bomber during World War II. His plane received enemy fire and the crew was ordered to bailout shortly before the plane exploded in mid air. Charles assisted a comrade during the bailout that resulted in saving the mans life. He was captured by the German Army and was a POW for seven months in the German POW camps. General George Pattons 14th Armored Division liberated him in Mooseburg, Germany, in April 1945. Charles (Quentin) was a member of the VFW Post #5896, American Legion Post #416, Caterpillar Club, Disabled American Vets, American Ex-Prisoner of War, and a member of the 398th Bomb Squadron. He was also a Purple Heart Recipient and a decorated war hero. He had a long work history of 23 years with Weber Construction and retired in 1988. Quentin is survived by his wife, Doris Shoults West King, stepchildren, Vivian Ives (Neal), Linda Derby (Dr. Dale Derby), Rod West (Linda), Paula Barton (Dale), and Jeff West (Suzette), 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Veronica Weiss (Russell deceased), Ruth Weiss (Robert deceased), Dorothy Wood (William deceased), and Norma Oder (Robert), and a brother, Robert Bernard King (Alma). Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and many close and very dear friends also survive. Visitation will be at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 28 at 4 p.m. for family and from 5 to 8 p.m. for the public. An American Legion and VFW Service will be at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will resume on Saturday at 7 a.m. with a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Cozean Chapel with the Reverend David Bates officiating.
