Charles L. Major of Farmington passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the age of 69 years, 5 months and 20 days. He was born on December 19, 1940, at Flat River, the son of the late William and Beulah (Wisdom) Major. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Thelma Neighbors. Charles was regarded as a loving, caring man who loved God and being one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He was a very active member of the Desloge Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and devoted his life to following the Bible's principles. He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in July 1970, and his faith in Jehovah was evident to all who knew him. Before retirement, he worked for the Doe Run Mining Company. Charles was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and enjoyed fishing. Most of all, he loved being a dad and grandpa, and spending time with family and friends. His love and compassion were never in short supply and will be missed by all his friends and family and that includes his wife, Beverly (Hafley) Major, six sons, Larry Major (Sylvia), Gary Major (Judy), all of Park Hills, Karry Major (Shari) of Trenton, IL, Kim Major (Tova) of Richmond, MO, Nathan Major (Rose) of Trion, GA, and Chuck Major (Shelley) of Bonne Terre, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, a brother, William Bill Major (Mary) of Steelville, and a sister, Sue Darton (Jim) of the State of Tennessee. Numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010. Visitation will resume at 7 a.m. on Saturday with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Cozean Chapel with Brother Glen Graff officiating. Burial will follow at Parkview Cemetery.
