Charles John "Charley" Brown

Charles John "Charley" Brown of Farmington passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2011, at the age of 85 years, 7 months, and 14 days. He was born on February 22, 1926, at Dade City, FL, son of the late William Charles and Anne Leslie (MaCrae) Brown. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jane Elizabeth Shrum and Shirley Downey and a brother, William Leslie "Bud" Brown. Charley came to Missouri with his family in 1929 and lived in Bollinger County before going to St. Louis in the late 30's. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during WWII. He was a decorated officer who received two bronze combat stars before being honorably discharged as a Corporal. He came back to St. Louis where he owned and operated a commercial printing business. He owned a farm in Ste. Genevieve County and came there to retire in the mid 70's. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered by many for bringing fine produce to area farmer's markets. Charles is survived by nine nieces and nephews. Also surviving are many good friends and acquaintances. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 11. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with Charley's nephews, Pastors Ronald and Charley Shrum officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Delassus Baptist Church of Farmington.
