Charles Homer Henderson of Farmington, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at Parkland Health Center at the age of 81 years, 6 months and 24 days. He was born July 16, 1932, at Flat River, son of the late Charles Virgil and Lorene Bertha (Politte) Henderson and was Baptized into the Christian faith on August 8, 1932. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Henderson (in infancy) and James "Hindu" Henderson in 2002. Homer grew up in the Flat River area and attended school at Esther, graduating in 1950. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952 to 1954. Upon discharge he went to work for Federal IGA as a butcher and market manager, where he remained for more than thirty years. He then worked for several markets and meat shops in the area until his retirement in 1994. Following retirement Homer began working part-time for Cozean Memorial Chapel where he quickly became a beloved and valuable member of the staff. He continued working for the funeral home up to the time of his death, having finished his last project just a week prior to his passing. He was a member of VFW Post # 5896, American Legion Post # 416, AMVETS Post #113, and the Farmington Elks BPOE # 1765. In 1957 he was instructed and confirmed as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Farmington where he remained a faithful member for the rest of his life. He served the church on the board of Elders for more than 30 years, as a member of the Sunday School class of Duane Giesselman and Doug Pratt, and was active in many other activities of the church. In his pare time he enjoyed many hobbies including but not limited to: boating, fishing, hunting, trail rides and woodworking. On November 3, 1956, he was married to Joanne Zimmer of Farmington who survives, along with their daughters, Leslie (& Dave) Jones and Sherri Weaver all of Farmington, and their four grandchildren, Charlie Weaver and Paul Jones of Farmington and Rebecca Weaver (&Dalton) Demaria of Centerville, VA and David Jones of Jefferson City. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Henderson of Kalamazoo, MI, four sisters, Joyce (& Lawrence) Smith of DeSoto, Judy (& Lindell) Parmeley of Cedar Hill, Alice (& John) Bader of Farmington, and Bonnie (& Rick) Cowley of Boron, CA. Many other relatives, neighbors and close friends also remain to mourn his passing. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Visitation will resume on Friday at the funeral home from 7 - 9 a.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church at 10 a.m. on Friday with Pastor James King officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family strongly encourages memorials be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Organ Repair Fund.
