Carlos Duane Harwood

March 11, 1950 — January 14, 2014

FARMINGTON Carlos Duane "Dude" Harwood of Farmington passed away, Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at his home at the age of 63 years. He was born March 11, 1950 at Winfield, Kansas son of the late Robert C. "Bob" and Charlea L. "Peggy" (Crain) Harwood. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandson Lane. Dude, as he was affectionately known, grew up in Kansas and attended school there where he played high school football and baseball. Following high school he attended college and worked as a union bricklayer and was a proud member of Bricklayers Local # 7. He graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Masters Degree in Psychology. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He then moved to Farmington and was a resident of the area for over thirty years during which time he worked for Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center as a Mental Health Coordinator, retiring in 2003. In his spare time he enjoyed deer, turkey and rabbit hunting, fishing, camping, and following college football and basketball. He was famous with his children and grandchildren for being the "World's Greatest Ice Cream Maker." He was a member of the Farmington VFW, AMVETS, and a former member of the Farmington Elks Lodge. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him including his two daughters, Sunny (& Jason) Zwahlen of Oswego, KS, and Destiny Harwood of Farmington, three grandchildren, Tucker, Katie Belle, and Abie Zwahlen of Oswego, KS, a brother Larry (& Dianne) Harwood of Montgomery, TX, a sister Becky (& Darrin) Saliba of Broken Arrow, OK, and numerous other relatives and friends. Friends may call at the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory from 9-11 a.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2014. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the Cozean Chapel followed by military honors. Visitation will continue on Sunday January 19th at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, KS from 1-2 p.m. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at the McKee Cemetery in Hallowell, KS. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Cozean Memorial Chapel & Crematory. Arrangements in Kansas are under the direction of the Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons, KS.
