Betty West

Betty West of Rural Ste. Genevieve County passed away Wednesday March 30, 2011, at her residence, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 13 days. She was born on November 17, 1933, at Newport, AR, daughter of the late Leman and Eunice (Metcalf) Roberts. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth G. West in 1971, and her long-time companion, Harold Supe Cureton in 2006. Betty worked for many years as a bookkeeper in St. Louis. She was also employed as a caregiver at the Ste. Genevieve County Group Home. She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and spending time with her family. She also loved her cats which were her companions. She is survived by a son, Mark West of St. Louis, MO, and a daughter, Sandra Ables and husband Hiram of OFallon, MO. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Mark Patrick West, Michael Kenneth West, Anthony James West, Richard Ables, Alexander Ables and Lauren Ables. The family will receive friends on Friday April 1, 2011, at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 12 noon at the chapel with Chaplain Greg Slinkard officiating. Burial will be at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at 2:15 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Missouri.
