FARMINGTON Betty J. Chaplin, passed away November 15, 2017 in Farmington at the age of 80. She was born on March 3, 1937 to the late Harold and Edna (Sebastian) Propst. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer M. Chaplin, Jr. in 1999; a daughter, Teresa Turner; a grandson, Joshua Chaplin, and a son-in-law, Terry Turner.
Betty was a 1954 graduate of Doe Run High School. Her husband, Elmer, was a military career man and they were fortunate to have lived in many locales, including Holland. While living in Holland, Betty spent much of her time oil painting. This hobby was one that she became very accomplished with. While living overseas she was intriqued to have had tea with Mr. McNabb who was famous for seeing the Loch Ness Monster. After their retirement, Betty and Elmer enjoyed continued travel excursions to many locations. Throughout her adult life she worked professionally as a seamstress and also sewed as a hobby. Her family will always cherish the memory of her sweet nature and her faithful spirituality and will never forget her supportive devotion for them.
Survivors include her children, Tracey Ludwig (Bob Hisserich), Mike Chaplin (Molly) and Mark Chaplin (Melissa); three grandchildren, Matthew Hampton (Chris), Rachel Thompson (David) and Sarah Creson (Paul); step grandchildren, Kirsten Cockrell, Dakota Vickers and Graci Blyze; great grandchildren, Madison Hampton, Wyatt Hampton, Alley Thompson and Ava Thompson; two step-great grandchildren, Stephanie Pettus and Finnley Cockrell; her sister, Mary Mayberry; special nephew, Steve Mayberry and a host of extended family.
Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 5 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Monday morning beginning at 7 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 10 a.m. with Reverend Rocky Good officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis at 1:15 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society.
