FARMINGTON Bernice "Bunnie" Eleanor Carter, of Farmington and formerly of Simpsonville, Kentucky, passed away on November 29, 2022, at Cedarhurst Senior Living at the age of 86. She was born in Hollywood, Florida on February 4, 1936, to the late Cecil Kiltie and Wilma May (Snyder) Kiltie. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Colonel Bobby J. Carter in 2021. "Bunnie" as most knew her, was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and went on to the University of Florida, graduating in 1959. She earned her masters degree in English in 1982 from the University of Kansas. She met and married Bobby J. Carter in Germany in 1960. A military wife, Bunnie, along with Bobby and their two children, lived in many places throughout the United States and in Europe. They retired to the Simpsonville/Shelbyville area in 1990 when Bobby went to work for the Kentucky National Guard. In Shelbyville, Bunnie was active in the Community Theater; she and Bob were volunteers with the Shelby County Horse Show fundraisers. During their retirement years, they traveled extensively around the world. She always enjoyed cruises and trips to the beach with her family and friends. She was an extremely accomplished bridge player, an avid reader and a huge lover of cats. Survivors include her children, Brian Carter (Sherry) of Fern Creek, KY and Cathy Giessing (Bill) of Farmington, Missouri; grandchildren, Carolyn Farmer (Chris), Zachary Giessing (Grace), Eric Carter (Stacy), Wendy Gensheimer, and Holly Curtis (Charlie); great grandchildren, Gwynelyn Farmer, Maddox Farmer, Sydney Carter, Marley Thomas, Annabelle Curtis and Daisy Curtis. Also surviving is her best friend of 70 years, Jane Silver of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date. Share your condolences at cozeanfuneralhome.com.
