Bernell Botkin

Bernell Botkin of Farmington passed away on Monday, November 12, 2007, at the Huckstep Rehabilitation Center, at the age of 83 years. He was born on October 4, 1924, at Centerville, the son of the late James B. and Lorene (Miller) Botkin. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Colleen Hartman Botkin. Bernell married Lena Santhuff in 1976, and she also preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Euel, Lowell and Gay Botkin, and one sister, Ilene Haas. He graduated from Centerville High School. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army in World War II. Mr. Botkin and three of his brothers operated Botkin Lumber Company for many years. He had also proudly served on the Board of Directors at First State Community Bank. He is survived by his three daughters: Linda Cook of Columbia, MO, Virginia Botkin and Janis Wade and son-in-law, Butch Wade, all of Farmington; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob Botkin (Wilma), Jim Botkin (Carol), both of Farmington and Richard Botkin (Gloria) of Texas, two sisters, Mary Martin of St. Louis and Irene (Luingene) Martin of St. Louis and sister-in-law, Reba Botkin, and brother-in-law, Gene Haas of Farmington. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Bernell spent many years enjoying time outdoors hunting, fishing and golfing. He had an unending number of stories to tell about his adventures participating in these sports. His wonderful sense of humor made the stories even more enjoyable to friends and family. Mr. Botkin was a loving husband and a wonderful father and grandfather. He has been described as a true gentleman and an honest businessman. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday with a funeral service to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozean Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will be at Hillview Memorial Gardens.
