FARMINGTON Barbara Joan Dunning, 73 of Farmington, passed away at sunset on May 31, 2016, after a long illness, at her home on the island of st. Maarten. She was born at sunrise on March 9, 1943 at Cantwell daughter of the late Orville and Thelma (Williams) Hulsey. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack, her brother Dean Hulsey, a nephew David Hulsey, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Barbara graduated from Desloge High school in 1961. She graduated from the St. louis College of Pharmacy in 1967. Along with her husband, Jack, both of who were registered pharmacists, she co-founded Medicate Professional Pharmacy where she served as President and owner from 1967 until 2005 when she retired. The first Medicate Pharmacy was opened in a small store front in Farmington, and in 1984 it was moved to a larger location on Karsch Boulevard where it expanded to include home care equipment and nursing home services in addition to its successful retail business. At the time of her retirement there were four local Medicate Pharmacies which were sold. In addition to her business operation, Barbara also served as a board member of the Missouri State Board of Pharmacy, and was at various times a member of numerous other local, State, and Federal professional organizations. In 1979 she expanded her business outreach and opened Omega Travel, a local travel agency. She served as the President, travel agent, and owner until closing the agency at the time of her retirement.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him including her daughter Suzanne (& Sozante) Dunning-Castro, son Andrew "Drew", four grandchildren; Siera, Dante, Andres, and Bella as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, dear friends and nieghbors.
Barbara's family will welcome all friends and nieghbors to a Celebration of Barbara's Life, to be held at her home in Farmington on Saturday, June 18, 2016 from 6p.m. to 9 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made in her name to: The Oliver-Dunning-Hulsey Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Louis College of Pharmacy, 4588 Parkview Place, St. Louis, MO 63110-1088.
