Barbara Burkett

September 18, 1946 — October 6, 2015

FARMINGTON - Barbara Burkett, of Farmington, passed away October 6, 2015 at Parkland Health Center at the age of 69. She wa born September 18, 1946 to the late Robert and Virginia (Gangwer) Kuhn. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Susan Kuhn and Linda Kuhn. Barbara was born and raised in Indiana. She attended Murray State in Kentucky where she received her Bachelors Degree in Education. For many years she taught school in the Farmington RVII School District as a Title I Special Reading Teacher. She was a faithful and active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Farmington. In her spare time Barbara enjoyed cross-stitching and sewing. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Survivors include her two children, Bridget Smith of Farmington and Bret Burkett and wife, Gelilah, of the state of Texas; five grandchildren and one great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Shumard of the state of Texas; and a host of extended family and many good friends. There will be a memorial gathering for family and friends at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 3 - 5 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2015 with a special devotional and prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials, if desired, may be made in Barbara's name to Memorial United Methodist Church.
