Anton Peter Schoen of Bonne Terre passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at the age of 93. He was born on December 16, 1919, at Cape Girardeau, MO, son of the late Charles A. and Mary (Welker) Schoen. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Jansen. Anton was raised in New Hamburg, Missouri where he faithfully served mass as a young boy and happily worked and greeted customers in his parents' general store. As a young man, Anton proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1942 - 1946, stationed on Tinian Island. After returning home, he wed the love of his life, Virginia Mier. They made their home in St. Louis, where Anton worked at Hautley Cheese for thirty-five years. He loved sharing his knowledge about cheese while slicing it to share over lunch. After Anton's retirement, he and Virginia relocated to the countryside of Ste. Genevieve County, where they loved spending time outdoors. Anton thoroughly enjoyed fishing, tending to his farm and garden as well as raising cattle with help from his friend and brother-in-law, George Heisserer. His favorite pastime was spending time with his beloved grandchildren and family. He was an avid Cardinal fan who often watched games with his faithful canine companion, "Trooper" and special friend and grandson-in-law, Matthew Rariden. He remained active, even checking on cattle two weeks ago with the help of his granddaughter, Christina. He faithfully attended Ste. Anne's Catholic Church in French Village. Anton will be remembered for his sense of humor, gentle spirit, perseverance and compassion. The family would like to thank his physicians, nurses, and special caregivers, Ruth Bayless, Regina Dane, Maggie Witt and Steve Laird who helped care for Anton. Anton was loved and will be missed by his beloved wife of 64 years, Virginia; daughter, Sharon Kleinsorge and son, Michael Schoen and wife, Debby; five grandchildren, Kimberly Kleinsorge, Christina Kleinsorge-Rariden and husband, Matthew, Robert Schoen, Pamela Schoen and Tony (Danielle) Schoen; three great-grandchildren, Jack and Ryan Schoen and Luke Rizutto; his brother, Aloyisus Schoen and his sister, Margaret Seiler; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
