Anna Kathryn Herbst

Anna Kathryn Herbst passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014, at the age of 89. She was born on March 3, 1925, at Fredericktown, daughter of the late Kathryn Birdella (Muellersman) Smith. In addition to her mother, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Herbst in 1998; a brother, John J. Smith and a daughter-in-law, Linda K. Herbst. Anna grew up in Fredericktown where she attended St. Michael Catholic School. She spent high school at the Ursuline Academy in Arcadia and went on to attend Fontbonne College in St. Louis. After she was married she and her husband, Charles, made their home in Farmington where they raised their family. She was a devoted mother to her three children. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a Fifty Year Member of American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hat Society. Anna will be most remembered as a very fun loving person who enjoyed going out to eat, going dancing and just having a good time. Survivors include her three children, Brenda K. (Mrs. Thomas) Donze; David C. Herbst, and Robert J. Herbst, all of Farmington; five grandchildren, Tracy L. Herbst, Lisa K. Smout, Jason T. Donze, Julie A. Anthony and Justin E. Donze; five great-grandchildren, Claire, Emma and Sam Smout and Jeffrey and Thomas Anthony; and a special cousin, Sister Marie Charles Buford, of St. Louis. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel on Thursday, March 20 from 5 to 8 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday morning in the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with Father Rickey Valleroy as Celebrant.
