Alvin G. "Bud" Murphy of Knob Lick passed away on Friday, October 28, 2011, at the age of 91 years, 1 month, and 1 day. He was born on September 27, 1920, at Knob Lick, Missouri, son of late Alexander Guy and Mary Gertrude (Wilkerson) Murphy. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Blanche Murphy and Marie Murphy and a grandson, Jay Christopher Nash. Bud was raised in Knob Lick and attended school there. After finishing school he managed the family farm and went on to work in the lead mines. On September 2, 1944 he married Fern Audell Wallace whom he had known all of his life. They made their home in the Knob Lick community where they raised their children. After 39 years with St. Joe Lead Company Bud retired. In his retirement he and Audell enjoyed traveling to many places including Florida, Cooperstown, Niagra Falls and Washington D. C. He enjoyed watching the Cardinals play baseball and fishing. Bud was also well known for his wonderful vegetable gardens. He was a long time, faithful member of the Knob Lick Church of God. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of his life and spending time with them was his favorite pastime. In addition to his wife of 67 years Bud is survived by his daughter, Janice Kay Johnson and husband Harold of Knob Lick; his son, Wayne Alvin Murphy of Imperial; two grandchildren, Kenneth Nash and wife Lisa, and Nathan Johnson; three great-grandchildren, Cynthia Cofer and husband Chris, Kristen Nash and Caden Johnson, all of Knob Lick; two sisters, Wilma Hollinger and Alma "Tommie" Hawkins both of Farmington and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Cozean Memorial Chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 30. Visitation will resume Monday from 7 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the Cozean Chapel with Pastors Donnie Linton and Gene Moses officiating.
